Visa approved — eVisa, stays and extensions
Your status is digital now: an eVisa in a UKVI account. Set it up before you travel, keep every stay within its limit, and know the short list of cases where a stay can be extended at all.
What do I do before I travel?
Create your UKVI account, confirm your identity and link it to your eVisa — usually instant, but allow up to 24 hours — and travel with the linked passport. Read the stay and extensions guide
Can I enter more than once?
Yes — multiple entries within the visa's validity, unless it is endorsed single or dual entry. Each stay is capped, usually at 6 months. Read the stay and extensions guide
How often can I come?
There is no set number — but a pattern of repeated long stays can get the visa cancelled, because visitors must not live in the UK through frequent visits. Read the stay and extensions guide
Can I extend my stay?
Only in a closed list of cases — a sub-6-month permission topped up, medical treatment, academics, the PLAB sequence — at £1,172. Read the stay and extensions guide
My treatment is running longer than planned.
Medical visitors can extend in further 6-month blocks with no cap on the number — provided earlier treatment is paid for and further costs are covered. Read the medical treatment guide
Should I have taken a long-term visa instead?
For frequent visitors it removes reapplying — but stays stay capped at 6 months, and the fee is never refunded. Read the long-term visa guide
